Q&A WITH DARRYL

01. Tell us a bit about you

I graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in civil (structural) engineering. After living and working in smaller towns for several years, my family and I started a new adventure in 2012 when we moved to the big City of Kitchener so I could start working at (at the time what was) a small engineering firm named Strik Baldinelli & Associates. My wife, Gina, and I have four fantastic children ranging in age from 5 to 16, 3 girls and 1 boy. We also have a very rambunctious 2-year-old dog, a goldendoodle named Taco. I grew up mostly in Tillsonburg, Ontario. My wife is originally from Kansas City, Missouri and we drive down every year to visit her side of the family. When not in the office, my free time is most often spent with my family, either playing basketball with my son, doing arts and crafts with the younger girls, running with our dog, or watching superhero movies with our oldest.

02. What have been some of the most important lessons you've learned throughout your career?

Two of the most important lessons I've learned are to always be honest with everyone, and to respect the knowledge and experience that every single person involved in a project brings.

03. what do you enjoy most about working at SBm?

Everyone cares deeply about the work they are doing.

Darryl's journey at SBM is not just about leading structural projects; it's about nurturing a passion for engineering while balancing family life. His philosophy of honesty and respect in the workplace, combined with his commitment to delivering quality work, makes him a vital part of the SBM family. His story is a testament to the harmonious blend of professional excellence and personal fulfillment, something SBM takes great pride in fostering among all its team members.
